There’s something timeless about getting married at San Francisco City Hall. The marble staircases, soaring dome, and natural light create one of the most iconic wedding settings in California.

Clara and Tom’s wedding day embraced exactly that: a simple civil ceremony surrounded by family, followed by a portrait session across some of San Francisco’s most beautiful locations. After their ceremony inside City Hall, we ventured to the coast for portraits at the Legion of Honor and the nearby Sea Cliff neighborhood.

The result was a wedding gallery that felt unmistakably San Francisco.

Getting Married at San Francisco City Hall

San Francisco City Hall has become one of the most sought-after wedding locations for couples planning an intimate celebration. Its Beaux-Arts architecture, grand staircase, and soft natural light make it a dream setting for wedding photography.

Civil ceremonies here are short and meaningful, typically lasting just a few minutes, which leaves plenty of time to explore the building for portraits afterward.

After City Hall, we headed west toward the coast for portraits at the Legion of Honor.

Perched above Lincoln Park, the museum is known for its sweeping coastal views and neoclassical architecture inspired by the Palais de la Légion d’Honneur in Paris.

The location feels almost European. Grand columns, open courtyards, and clean stone textures create a sophisticated backdrop that elevates wedding portraits instantly.

For Clara and Tom, this part of the day felt the most like an exhale. We wandered through quiet streets overlooking the water, letting the afternoon light guide us.
